30 common words to avoid in IELTS Writing

Багато слів, які ми вживаємо, коли розмовляємо англійською мовою, недоречні в секції IELTS writing. Ми відібрали загальновживані слова, які студенти та кандидати досить часто використовують у своїх есе, проте яких слід уникати. Ці слова занадто неформальні для IELTS Writing, якщо ви не пишете листа другові в IELTS General. Однак Task 2 в загальному та письмові завдання в IELTS Academic вимагають більш академічної лексики.

Проблема ще й у тому, що ви не завжди знаєте, які слова в англійській мові є не академічними, а які академічними. Ось чому сьогодні поговоримо про деякі найпоширеніші з тих, яких слід уникати на іспиті IELTS. Знаючи та вживаючи їх на письмі, ви  зможете досягти бажаного балу.

Уважно прочитайте та запам’ятайте слова подані нижче. Ми наводимо приклади не академічної лексики та запропонували, як ви можете замінити її більш офіційними словами чи фразами.

  • You/ Your = One / Passive voice – особові займенники краще замінити пасивним станом або займенником “one”.

  • A phone = a telephone – телефон.

  • Info = information – інформація.

  • So on / etc. / and so forth = A, B, and C – замість “і т.д.” перелічуємо все, далі пишемо “and” та останній з перелічуваних предметів.

  • At the end of the day = In conclusion / To conclude – на завершення; отже; врешті решт.

  • A big deal = important; an important step – важливий.

Most patients don’t think that getting enough sleep is a big deal but study after study shows how important it is for good health.

  • Bad = poor / negative  – поганий.

  • Big = large / sizable – великий.

  • Find out = discover – дізнаватися.

  • Look at = examine – дивитися; оглядати.

  • Point out = Indicate – зазначати; вказувати на щось.

  • Guys / Fellows / Dudes = people / individuals / everyone – люди; усі.

It’s a general rule that applies to all those dudes and benefits them.

  • Stuff / Things = Aspects / Issues / Ways  – питання; проблеми.
